Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 5 mg daily in the morning, adjusted as required. Maintenance: 2.5-10 mg daily. Angina Initially 5 mg daily in the morning, may be increased to 10 mg daily if necessary.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush/divide. Avoid grapefruit juice.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Cardiogenic shock. Women of childbearing potential. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
May precipitate significant hypotension w/ tachycardia which may result to myocardial ischemia in susceptible individuals.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, fatigue, flushing, headache, hypotension, peripheral edema. GI disturbances, eye pain, increased micturition frequency, lethargy, mental depression. Paradoxical increase in ischemic chest pain (start of treatment); excessive fall in BP; liver function abnormalities, fever, rashes; gingival hyperplasia.
Drug Interactions
Increased elimination w/ anticonvulsants (eg, phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarb). Impaired elimination w/ enzyme inhibitors eg, cimetidine, erythromycin, certain flavonoids present in grapefruit juice.
